Hi , been teaching in Thailand going on seven years now ,from the skyscrapers of the City of Angels to the rubber plantations of war torn deep south , the elite , poorest of poor , bar girls , lady boys, farangs , Ive taught them , got the T shirt .Arrived hear equiped with three languages to my tongue , so taking to Thai was relatively easy ,after a few months here i decided to take a few formal lessons , on my second lesson I was disturbed that my Teacher saw fit to insist that I should not worry as to details of phrases , "just memorise this and you will be understood.." I wanted to know meaning , grammar etc etc to each phrase , so never again have I undergone any formal training in Thai , as such although my pronunciation is certainly better than most , my understanding of spoken Thai is lacking as is my grammar , Ive learned mostly by way of dictionary and from my students , moreover I have never been involved in any form of relationship with a local , so have not had someone readily on hand to assist me on a day to day bases. Thai's upon hearing that I can speak will always then ask me of my Thai partner , they don't believe me when I say I do not have one , always asking me then how is it that I can speak . . I tell then , as i teach my students English , my students teach me Thai yakity yak blaah ,blah blaah yak yakity yak blah this is probably the best organised site I have ever visited on any topic , and the first time I'm actually using a site to learn Thai , well done guys !!
