Hi!

Postby Toomhawaii » Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:14 pm

I'm new to this site. I'm here to learn my language. I am 75% Thai/ 25% Laotian but I was born in America. My mom was born in Thailand and speaks fluently. I spoke Thai and Isaan when I was little. I still understand when they speak to me but I can't reply fluently. I have to think first. I went to Thailand this winter to visit my family in Khon Kaen. I was kind of ashamed at how much I forgot (couldn't reply) so it led me to relearn here. I'm basically here to increase my vocabulary and learn the alphabets. How long do you guys think it will take me to be fluent considering I pretty much understand the tones and quite a bit of words?

Hi Toomhawaii

Welcome to the forum. In answer to your question, I think you will pick it up quite quick. As always it depends to a large degree on how much time you give it but you have a great base that will help a lot. If you are now back in the States then the internet is probably your best resource. Watching Thai Tv and youtube are also great ways to learn. Thai TV website: http://www.thaitvnow.com/
