can some one help

Postby sussen » Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:04 pm

Hi
looking for a cool name for a resort, and I want it to fit into thai.
Have a name but cant find the words I got from a thai friend.
It is : Wiman Farang (like Wiman Mec Palace)
I want to know If วิมาน is Wiman?
And does it stand for paradise where the angels live or someting like that?
Can not find it on this page.
Would be so glad to get an answer :D

As the reference shows it is used to describe your house as special. It actually means home or vehicle of the gods/angels(supernatural beings).
I think that the palace is probably วิมานเมฆ which would be two nouns; place for gods-clouds.
Just a name which if I were familiar enough a poet I might be able to picture, how about you? :)

'วิมาน' or 'wiman' is a loan word, meaning heaven. It can be used to name a place to make it sound intriguing. This word, to me, is equivalent to 'chateau'.
'ฝรั่ง' or 'farang' is a word used only in informal context of situation. Its equivalent should be 'chap'.
