I put 1-3 Post-It notes around my monitor every day at work with words I want to learn, and I can stare at them when I'm waiting for something to load or compile. Beyond that, I just look up words in the dictionary as and when I need them, but I tend to forget within a few hours that way.
It may be changing direction in the thread a bit but as you are the OP and have asked I will answer. I read some websites of some polyglots as they learn vocab amazingly fast. They all have use memory techniques. I use 'making up a story' method. I have found it works for me as I remember the word and the tone can be included in the story.
The word expect is คาดหมาย. I thought about my days as a kid with my go kart. I always expected my kart to win the race which starts downhill and rises at the finish line.
I get the Eng word and the 2 Thai syllables, admittedly the wrong way round, and I get falling tone for the 1st syllable and rising for the 2nd.
