I thought that Nan covered that; in อย่างละนิดอย่างละหน่อย I think that อย่าง is noun and so is ที therefore I would assume ทีละนิดทีละหน่อย.
นิด and หน่อย are paired นิดหน่อย ว. ไม่มาก, เล็กน้อย.
There is เล็กน้อย paired up in the definition so ทีละเล็กทีละน้อย probably explains that one.
But if you take a look in the dictionary you can get as confused as me to the point of not worrying about it too much.

Google Translate has ทีละเล็กทีละน้อย for little-by-little, ค่อยๆ for gradually, and it doesn't like ทีละนิดทีละน้อย or ทีละหน่อย. I think the case is clear.
