Yes I know the meaning of ก่อน but I wondered why it was used here. Not important, just curious.

you can hear ก่อน used idiomatically in a few phrases like :
นั่งก่อน > sit down first (and then we can chat a little)
ผมไปก่อนนะครับ > I will go now (before you)
