Writing a letter

Postby bifftastic » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:03 pm

Hi folks,

I'm about to write a letter (in Thai) to my step-daughters.

I have the content, but I would like your opinions on how to start and finish the letter.

In English I would say something like "Dear <insert names>" and finish with "all my love, Papa"

How do Thai people start and finish letters of this kind?

I'd ask my wife, but it's a surprise :)

Thanks in advance for your help,

Biff

To be honest I have never sent or recieved a handwritten letter in Thai...I have and so recieve e-mails, but I know they are much more informal and so probably not a good example.

I was curious to find out as well and found this at another forum:

http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/showthr ... er-in-Thai

Dear (blank) = (blank) ที่รัก

You could then end with....
ด้วยความรักทั้งหมดพ่อ = with all my love(my from the perspective of the dad)

Hope that helps
Jarvis
