That looks like a good book to have, I shall look for it.
I haven't seen อ่านอย่างไรและเขียนอย่างไร and that looks good too, I hope to find the two side by side on the shelf and choose.
I am reading a book on the รัตนโกสินทร์ period at the moment and usually guess but have you found out มหามงคลวโรกาส yet, or do we need the book to do it? ( 'great big favourable opportunity' perhaps ?)
Edit: I suppose I don't mean Rajasap; I mean joining Pali and Sandscit words.

Both those books show on the Se-Ed site, although I'm not savvy enough to discern if they're in stock anywhere.

They can't be all that big a books for their prices, but sometimes good things come in small packages !

While I was on that site I stumbled across another one which might be of interest;
ภาษาไทย คำที่มักอ่านผิดและคำที่มักเขียนผิด (ฉบับรวมเล่ม) ISBN; 978-974-049-157-6 for 90 baht.
It might be a good read too.

I'm off to see if the Se-Eds around my house have 'em.

มหามงคลวโรกาส looks as though วร and โอกาส have been merged in an interesting way.

Incredibly I found both books at B2S bookstore across the street from my house, 45 baht for both.

That book อ่านอย่างไรและเขียนอย่างไร certainly is worth the 20 baht. I'd get more out of it if it had the meanings of the words, too instead of the word as it's spelled and then the syllable by syllable break down for the pronunciation. Then again most Thais probably already know the meanings .

I couldn't find the other book which I had mentioned earlier, but did find one which caught my eye called;
พจนานุกรมคำที่มีความหมายใกล้เคียงกัน และคำพ้องรูป คำพ้องเสียง which is turning out to be a pretty good read actually.

Thanks, Tod, for your reconnoiter. Please keep us informed about what you are finding at the local Se-ed stores. The chain seems to be a staple of Thai shopping centers.

You’re certainly correct; it’s definitely finding the right material.

There is a HUGE lack of material offered at Thai language schools for someone like me; sort of a “low-intermediate learner” . Often it’s the same old “beaten to death” stories Thais have been reading as kids since “Hector was a pup”. They are neither edge of your seat material, nor do they provide further instruction on what I call the “whyz-in-thai” or how this language goes together.

Thankfully, there are a plethora of books out there, which teach the finer aspects of Thai. However, seeing as they’re written IN Thai, a person hasta be able to read and understand Thai BEFORE gaining access to the information they contain .

That’s why early on I concentrated on books by Andrew Biggs and Christopher Wright which teach English to Thais but are written in Thai. The topic was of interest, was understood in context and I could work out some of the dissimilarities between sentences constructed in the two languages from their explanations and examples. I now have progressed to "teen trash romance novels" in Thai.

I routinely tell foreigners learning Thai that for me it wasn’t until I read a book written in Thai about “The tones in Thai” that the rules really clicked in my head and began making sense. (Come to think of it, that may not be the best thing to relate to them about my learning Thai. .. )

I honestly believe, if that book were translated into English, it’d be a best seller certainly in the niche market of “teach Thai to foreigners”. I’d give you the name of the book but I lent it to a Thai teacher friend, who’s yet to return it .

Yeah, there’s hope for me yet. .. Someday (in the distant future) even I might actually be able to “speak AND spell” Thai, but don’t hold your breath.
