Practicing Tones - Mastering Tones [...] - Stuart Jay Raj

Postby daฟาน » Tue Sep 13, 2016 9:24 am

Hi,

I've just watched one of Stuart Jay Raj's videos and I thought it's really interesting.

It's been uploaded in 2012 so chances are you might have watched this already but if not, then give it a try:

The interesting part for me started at 09:00

He is a linguist, I find his constant references and examples from the hundred or so other languages he speaks rather patronising and annoying.

I'm not much of a fan neither and previously I always stopped watching after a few seconds, but this one I must admit I found very helpful. I probably got the high tone wrong all the way.

Listen to him if you want to improve your pronunciation skill in English not Thai.

shots fired!

I usually hear Thais only complementing his pronunciation

But then... sometimes people think that I'm Thai on the phone and my pronunciation is nowhere near perfect

When you can communicate in Thai, it is advisable that you listen to Thai speakers when they say things in real situations. You can always work on identifying tones by doing so, I think.

Below are two examples that you can find online.

(I don't love the speakers in the examples in particular, but I have found that they are clear speakers when they say things.)
