when i was in thailand some 6 months ago i got a friend to read some thai sayings so i could record them on tape. when i was playing them back i realized they didn't read all of them correctly! as in the book that is.

here is the version written in the book:
คนที่พูดมากที่สุดมักเป็นคนที่ลงมือทำน้อยที่สุด
(The greatest talkers are the least doers.Is the English equivalent.)

and this is what was read:
คนที่พูดมากที่สุด มักจะเป็นคนทำลงมือน้อยที่สุด

i was wondering if the thai read version is still ok and means exactly the same as the version written in the book? and would it be perfectly acceptable to write this สุภาษิตไทย like this??

actually theres a few others that were not read exactly as เขียนอยู่ที่หนังสือสุภาษิตเล็กของผม

เขียนในหนังสือเล็ก
ไม่มีใดรจะัแกล้งทำเป็นโง่ ได้แนบเนียนเท่ากับคนฉลาด
(No man can play the fool so well as the wize man)

คนออกเสียงว่า (if this is the right expression?)
ไม่มีใดรจะัมักแกล้งทำเป็นโง่ แต่แนบเนียนเท่ากับคนฉลาด

and!
เขียนในหนังสือของผม
คนที่ตกต่ำวันนี้อาจรุ่งโรจน์ขึ้นได้ในพรุ่งนี้
(He that falls today may rise tomorrow)

คนออกเสียงแบบนี้ไม่หมือนกันในเล่มนั้น(if this is a correct expression?)
คนตกต่ำวันนี้อาจรุ่งโรจน์ขึ้นในพรุ่งนี้

ผมให้คนช่วยขอบคุณอย่างมากล่วงหน้า (or should this be written: ผมให้คนช่วยล่วงหน้า ขอบคุณอย่างมาก?)

and this is what was read:

---> ทำ should have come after ลงมือ.

doer = คนที่ลงมือทำ, คนลงมือทำ, นักปฎิบัติ, ผู้ทำ
in this case, the perfect fit is คนที่ลงมือทำ

ไม่มีใดรจะัแกล้งทำเป็นโง่ ได้แนบเนียนเท่ากับคนฉลาด
(No man can play the fool so well as the wize man)
---> this is right.

คนออกเสียงว่า (if this is the right expression?)
ไม่มีใดรจะัมักแกล้งทำเป็นโง่ แต่แนบเนียนเท่ากับคนฉลาด
---> ... hmm, no one likes to play fool but so well as the wise man??!!?!? คนไทยเองยังงงเลยค่ะ (-_-')

คนที่ตกต่ำวันนี้อาจรุ่งโรจน์ขึ้นได้ในพรุ่งนี้

คน(ที่)ตกต่ำ(ใน)วันนี้อาจรุ่งโรจน์(ขึ้น)(ได้)(ในวัน)พรุ่งนี้

ผมให้คนช่วยขอบคุณอย่างมากล่วงหน้า (or should this be written: ผมให้คนช่วยล่วงหน้า ขอบคุณอย่างมาก?)

I'm not sure if they are called สุภาษิต. They are not familiar to me. Thais have a few kinds of 'proverbs,' namely สุภาษิต and คำพังเพย. Sometimes those sayings are only โวหาร and สำนวน. Hm ..

I went to a chatroom at Pantip. It was a room for the "Central" area of ประเทศไทย. I obviously couldn't say or understand much, but it seemed mostly populated with teenagers not talking about anything that would interest me. Is there a room where people would be tolerant of someone trying to learn their language and perhaps closer to 30?

I'm not sure which room you were in. It might be สยามสแควร์ where teenagers who experience love drop by. In the Pantip webboard, there are many rooms for particular interests like politics, books, sports, TV-movies, etc. Unfortunately, you can't find a room for foreigners learning Thai in Pantip, except in a few gay webboard that has a room for Thais chatting in English.

However, I'd love to suggest you visit this room, ไกลบ้าน. It's a place where Thais studying in foreign countries meet. They might be kind and tolerate enough to chat with you in Thai. Let's try it and Good Luck!!!
