Gluten Intolerance

Postby John » Tue Aug 31, 2010 8:46 pm

My wife is gluten intolerant. I have made up a card for her to take to Thai restaurants (in the U.S.) listing the things she cannnot eat but am wondering if there are specific terms to for "gluten intolerance" or "Celiac Disease" in Thai?

Is she intolerance to all wheat products then?
Is she also intolerance to sticky rice as well?

Wheat is not a native Thai crop, therefore Thai do not know much about gluten. I don't believe that we have a term for that. She needs to ask if the product is made of wheat flour if she only concerns about wheat gluten.
Mostly foods from Chinese eating place will contain wheat products.
There are many products made with pure gluten for vegetarians ie. mock duck, mock chicken and mock etc. Other products from wheat flour are egg noodles, Wonton, Siewmai, Hakow and so on.

(อาการ)แพ้อาหารที่มีแป้งสาลี(แป้งหมี่) means allergy or intolerance to foods that contains wheat flour. Make sure to check the label for the hi lighted word if there is a label.
