Often I just want to ask a little question and creating a new topic seems a bit of a waste everytime. I thought a word query thread for little questions would be useful.

do you know what you saying? - พูดอะไรออกมา

Got this from a phrasebook, is the translation right? It reads to me more like 'what did you say' which is different. I wanted an informal phrase to use if a thai is speaking in english and says something which i suspect they don't understand (i.e. just guessing) or say something wrong without saying พูดผิด.

พูดอะไรออกมา seems to be saying; "what did you say?".

I think here we could use the term รู้เรื่อง; to know, understand

คุณพูดรู้เรื่องไหม - "do you know/understand what you are saying?"

If you say this sentence, it would sound like you are finding a quarrel. It implies that "you never understand what I'm trying to tell you."

do you know what you saying? - พูดอะไรออกมา - This sentence implies that "I didn't expect to hear that from you", kind of surprise or shock.

You can say "คุณเข้าใจ(รู้)หรือเปล่าว่าที่คุณพูดหมายถึงอะไร", literally it means "Do you understand (know) the meaning of what you said or not?"

I find it easy to piece words together... but the meaning is not always as I intend, as Khun Nan has pointed out. Thank you Khun Nan!

Go for it, how they are said tells more than what you say. If you are in the attitude of your picture when your partner suggests a walk in the park all suggestions work well enough, even ไม่มีจุด might. Try looking up the words in the thai dictionary which gives a better flavour of the meanings; ไม่มีจุดหมาย appears to be short for ไม่มีจุดหมายปลายทาง which seems more lofty than the situation might need, but only you know.

I would say that most phrases depend on the situation so it is important to include that when asking the question. I can think of a few, but all are used in slightly different situations. I think you are probably looking for ไร้ผล because of the English meaning and the others listed are inferring a goal or destination. I would also say from experience that it is important to be careful when saying something with an absolute negative because Thai people aren't straight forward like us. So in short, this probably isn't something you want to say to someone casually.
