ภาษาแช็ตมีลักษณะที่พอจะสรุปได้ ๑๐ แบบดังนี้คือ

๑. ไม่เขียนตามแบบมาตรฐานที่ปรากฏในพจนานุกรม เช่น

เปลี่ยน "ก็" เป็น "ก้อ"
เปลี่ยน "ใช่ไหม" เป็น "ใช่มั้ย"

เปลี่ยน "กรรม" เป็น "กำ"

๒. ผันรูปวรรณยุกต์ผิดกฎเกณฑ์การเขียนภาษาไทยมาตรฐาน เช่น

เปลี่ยน "สนุกเกอร์" เป็น "สนุ๊กเกอร์"
เปลี่ยน "โน้ต" เป็น "โน๊ต"
เปลี่ยน "หนู" เป็น "นู๋"

ในกรณีนี้คือการใช้ไม้ตรีกำกับพยัญชนะเสียงต่ำ (อักษรต่ำ) เพื่อแสดงเสียงตรีแต่กฎเกณฑ์การเขียนภาษาไทยให้ใช้ไม้โทกำกับ และการใช้ไม้จัตวากำกับพยัญชนะต่ำเพื่อแสดงเสียงจัตวา แต่กฎเกณฑ์การเขียนภาษาไทยให้ใช้ ห หีบ นำอักษรต่ำ

The linguistic equivalent of wearing your belt round your ass, in my opinion.
I don't know why people are desperate to show their accent. This is one step on from เค้า for เขา ม้ย for ไหม which is one step up from น้ำ, where the step wasn't made; people were clever enough to know that it was often said น้าม but they didn't need to write it.
Just as I have resisted the temptation to show that I am wearing underwear, so I will resist the temptation to bond with the masses.

I'm not all that advanced in my Thai ability so am wondering if some of these changes are due to some combinations being easier to type on a keyboard?

I think you mean - เด๋ว

as John said, some of the words are really written because people can skip pressing shift for example

for the same reason I have seen เค่ว more often than เค๋ว (seen both)

another example อังกฤษ อังกิด

At my home we have a strong dialect. Almost everyone writes in our dialect, especially (or probably only - didnt think about it before) if words are way shorter (for example: a instead of auch, di instead of dich).

I wonder if the driver is not ease in typing on the Thai computer keyboard, but ease in entering text on a telephone keyboard.

Interesting idea David.

When my wife was visiting me here in London, I gave her my old iphone 3gs.

When she changed the language input to Thai, a lot of the characters just weren't there on the virtual keyboard. (Sorry, I should have made a note of which ones!) Maybe it's like English 'txt spk' where words evolve based on the speed with which they can be typed on a 'phone screen/keyboard with the added problem of the extra characters in Thai.
