As Glenn said, we can report a fault when we are sure there is an error. In this instance, I am reluctant to report an error because it is quite possible that the RID is in error - silence on pronuciation may mean they have overlooked a complexity, rather than that there is no complexity.

Where does the pronunciation entry come from? I don't think wanna has been deduced from the spelling.

There is another similar sounding word that I almost forgot about. I am suggesting adding this word to the dictionary:

วรรณะ [N] complexion; skin Syn. ผิว

My recollection comes from this line from a very old song:

"คงถวายมะลิไหว้พระ วรรณะจึงได้นวลขาว"

"You must have been very generous in giving flowers to the Buddha to have been blessed with such beautiful white skin." (forgive the poetic license)

To hear this wonderful song go to:

Let me know if this link works.

Cannot confirm that your link works.

Would you like to check also this (current) entry of TL.com-dic:

Can confirm now that it works in Firefox. In IE (on my system) error messages are shown in place of the video.

Currently, this entry lack the meaning of "skin, complexion". I confirmed that the song is readable by Explorer version 8. For those of you looking for the words to this song, the lyrics are below the video window.

Thanks

Currently, this entry lack the meaning of "skin, complexion". Currently, no news, I have no access to RID online. The entry 151180, however, gives the information that the term has two major meanings, both are nouns:

Code: Select all
วรรณ-; วรรณะ /วัน-นะ-; วัน-นะ/ [นาม] สี เช่น สีสันวรรณะ, ผิว เช่น ผิวพรรณวรรณะ. [นาม] ชาติชั้น เช่น ชาติชั้นวรรณะ, ในสังคมฮินดูแบ่งคนออกเป็น ๔ วรรณะ คือ พราหมณ์ กษัตริย์ แพศย์ ศูทร.

The first meaning is handled by Glenn/TL.com at http://www.thai-language.com/id/149198

This term has 2 phonetics (according to Glenn): wan/wanna.

อาร์ทู,

I can't get into the RID site either; one can only hope that they are making upgrades.

The Matichon dictionary says:

"วรรณ-, วรรณะ น. สี, ผิว; ลำดับชั้นในสังคมของบางสังคม"

Definition: "color, skin; the ordering levels within some societies."
