Thai Dialects

Postby Captain (กัปตัน) » Sun May 18, 2003 6:23 am

Anyone have any idea how and where can I find and learn Thai dialects? I understand that there are many forms of dialects being spoken besides the official Thai language which is widely spoken currently in various parts of Thailand. Perhaps I can start with the most common form of Thai dialect. I have some basic knowledge of the official language but I wonder if it can be taken as the pre-requisite to learning the dialects. If that is the case, then it will be an added advantage for me. :)

I would pick the most commonly spoken dialect in Thailand. :)

Then it should be the Isan, for it's widely spoken, also in Bangkok. Besides you can learn Laotian at the same time because they share the same root.

Hopefully, this site helps http://student.nu.ac.th/isannu/isanculture/language1.htm .

Thanks but I still prefer websites that are using English to teach. Any good recommendations?
