Postby Toffeeman » Fri Dec 30, 2011 2:09 am

I have noticed that when members post another website as a source of info that website opens in the window that you are using. Meaning it takes over from T-L website. In most other forums, if you click a url it will open in a new window which is easier as you can refer back to the post you are reading as well as read the source info too. Do I have to adjust my settings or is it peculiar to this site?

I've noticed that as well. It's lead me to make the mistake of closing that window, which then loses the Thai-langauge.com window.

If it could be easily changed to 'opens in a new window', then I'd appreciate it :)

Chrome users have the option to Right-Click the link, choose Open Link in New Tab.

Maybe other browsers have something similar?

Also, <Ctrl>-Click opens the link in a new window.

This is standard for all browsers, but quite beside the point.

Anyway, the point is moot. I've just visited another phpBB3 site and the links work the same way. Maybe the OP visits forums which use a different technology?

I looked at the choices given to administrators of the site to see if clicking the result of a referenced url could be altered in the manner you are suggesting. However, I could find no such option.

I think you need html-tags to be able to do that:

A html-tag like this opens in the same window:
<a href="http://www.thai-language.com">Thai Language</a>

A html-tag like this opens in a new window:
<a href="http://www.thai-language.com" target="_blank">Thai Language</a>

Some forums you can use both Forum code (the [...] tags) and html and therefore you can open pages in a new window, but this forum uses only Forum code, and I don't think it's possible with that.

Thanks for the responses. I used ctrl and click the link and it opens in a new window so no big issue.
