น้ำเน่า  nam nao can this be said to describe a couple who are acting really corny with each other like showing too much affection or a movie that is a typical girly movie??

I hear this phrase most commonly in ละครน้ำเน่า, referring to the Thai soap operas on TV.

In this context, therefore, it must mean cheesy, over-the-top, hammed-up, preposterous.

ละครน้ำเน่า is the only context I'd heard the word น้ำเน่า used in before, but now that I know the meaning it could be a useful word (for me).

It seems to quite succinctly sum up every Thai soap opera I've ever watched in this country. ..

Being English I have no trouble with this, 'rotten' is perfect as a translation. It just appears to mean that you don't like something. Rotten saves the need to explain what 'cheesy' means also.
