Apps are generally either easier ways of accessing information (like my Gmail app is better than going to Gmail on a browser) It's just laid out better, with your phone in mind. Gmail on the app means I can easily scroll through my lists of messages, organise them into categories, open them, read them, throw them away. All the stuff you want to do with emails, with dedicated buttons in the app.

If there's an app for something I usually have to use a browser for, I'll get the app.

David, thanks for the encouraging words.

Good question. To be honest, it hadn't crossed my mind that an elephant isn't simply an elephant.

My designer friend Cansu (http://cargocollective.com/cansuakarsu) wasn't impressed by my own attempt at making an icon, so she drew this elephant for me instead. Judging from a quick online survey, it seems she has drawn the Asian variety.

Actually, at this point, I am leaning more and more towards using the official "favicon" of thai-language.com instead:

What are your opinions on this?

Agreed!

Additionally, apps are often much snappier than websites, and in the case of the upcoming thai-language.com app, there is the added benefit of being able to use the dictionary regardless of having a working internet connection.

Christian,

I vote in favor of the "" if Glenn agrees. Since the data is his, the symbol should reflect that.

Personally, I like the elephant :) although it will make little difference in my use of the app.

And yes, it does appear to be more like the Asian elephant :)

In the beginning it was hard to read this font, but I've been using various different looking fonts in Ankie for sometime already, so I got used to this pretty soon. I think its just good that you see different fonts.

Agreed. The thai-language.com iOS app, which is now available in the App Store, gives users a choice of three typeface variants:
  • Modern (the iOS 7 default)
  • Traditional (in which letters have clear circular "heads")
  • Traditional light (a slightly less dense variant of the traditional font)
