Maroon

Postby chiangmaishrek » Tue Mar 12, 2013 3:08 pm

I cannot find maroon in Thai on thai-language.com. I have found violet or purple (http://www.thai-language.com/id/131693). Is there an entry for such a colour here? If not, I would of course suggest that it is added. How is this word written in Thai? Thanks!

The Domnern-Sathienpong dictionary has "maroon" as "แดงเลือดหมู". What we might call "ox-blood", the Thai seem to prefer "pig-blood".

Lexitron shows, "maroon [N] สีแดงม่วงเข้มอมน้ำตาล" (dark purplish red mixed with brown)

I had only a vague idea of what maroon was; reddish, the dictionary says brownish crimson. the E/T dictionary has two, สีเลือดหมู colour of pig's blood สีเลือดนกเข้ม strong colour of birds blood .

Thanks for the quick replies. I pasted สีเลือดหมู colour of pig's blood, and สีเลือดนกเข้ม strong colour of birds blood into Google translate and got Google to play both to me. It's definitely the first of these which I have from my Thai language helper, so it does seem to be pig's blood. Now I just have to record the word blood...
