Funny, while browsing old threads I noticed that this caused some confusion back in 2009: http://www.thai-language.com/forums/t/p15855#p15861.

I do understand that handling all corner cases is nigh impossible, and this bug doesn't seem to appear anywhere else so it's no big deal.

Thanks for this great website and forum, Glenn and everyone... I learn new things here every day.

The presentation bug is now fixed.

I even checked out the display when ISO 11940 is set as the default 'transcription' scheme, which should be singularly inappropriate for the page in issue. For the very first word listed, I got the following:

เก่ง æk̀ng ek̀ng

I think that summarises the source of the content error. I suspect the complication is that you have to bypass the normal full transcription logic because 'tone mark shortens ' is built into the rules. One thing that is missing from the rules is that this shortening rule only applies in closed syllables. (I have not examined the rules for getting the เอ็ว or เอว sound - Li doesn't reconstruct a Proto-Tai precursor for it.)
