i have three questions regarding the behavior of monks in thailand. i wonder if things have changed since i was a monk here 31 years ago at วัดประชานิยม จ.กาฬสินธุ์
the first question involves smoking. i have seen monks smoking hand-rolled ยาเส้น as well as cigarettes and even cigars. it's been so long ago that i have forgotten many of the 200 + rules regarding a monk's behavior.
the second involves a motor bike. are monks permitted to drive a motor bike? can they ride on the back of one and if so should they sit "side-saddle"?
both questions may have the same answer, i.e. there is no actual prohibition in buddhist law, but smoking and riding a bike may be culturally inappropriate. tell me what you think.
my third question regards the morning walk to gather food offered by lay people. time was all monks had to go on this excursion บิฌฑบาฅ except those physically unable to do so. nowadays it seems many monks wait at the temple for offerings to arrive. is this considered acceptable behavior?
