Like so many other foreign - or even Thai - learners. I started reading with Maanii. I was pleased, therefore, to see that a brand new presentation of these books online has appeared. Each book is divided into sections (lessons) and for each of these there is an image of the original, a line by line break down - Thai text, audio file, romanised representation of the line then English translation.

It is very much a work in progress and to date the first 4 (out of 12) books have been completed. The web author ครูเหมียว is developing this even further - according to the todo list, to draw from it lessons on Thai culture etc. I'd recommend it

Maanee books were originally published by Thai Ministry of Education and were used to teach primary students to read and write Thai between 1978-1994.

The great thing about this books is not only teach how to read and write Thai but the readers will also learn Thai culture, tradition and Thai way of life as well.

The characters in the books will gradually introduce the readers to learn about Thailand and it's people . The readers will start to build the bond with the stories and before you know it you will start to read Thai with joy.

Learning Thai should be fun and Maanee books will give you just that..enjoy learning Thai everyone

I will be eternally grateful for the Maani series.....showing me I can read, without the torture of learning the alphabet first (or ever!).
