looking for fully comprehensive Audio lessons Pimsleur style

Postby Farrung » Mon Jan 10, 2011 11:08 am

Hi all

I'm after some COMPREHENSIVE Audio lessons that don't require you to refer to a book or text while you listen. In other words lessons that give you Thai words or sentences followed by their meaning in English like the Pimsleur Thai lessons. I've found these lessons to be the most useful to me because I'm too lazy to sit down to study so I like to listen to Audio in the car or while I'm cleaning the house but its no good to me if they just rattle off a bunch of Thai without giving the meaning in English.

I know the comprehensive Pimsleur Lessons 1-30 off by heart but didn't find them very comprehensive (I still can't speak Thai)
Does anybody know if there is more advanced Audio material such as this as I feel like I'm just going over the same basic words repeatedly.

I would greatly appreciate any advice

I think you should consider "Thai for Beginners" with the two audio CDs. It contains about 400 sentences spoken in Thai. The vocab is in the book, but it is also spoken, though the sentences themselves are not translated in the audio. (They are translated in the book.) You should follow the link on learningthai.com as the book is cheaper if purchased in Thailand. Don't forget to order the CDs at the same time.

I agree, Thai for Beginners has been the basis for my learning.

does anybody know the correct term for the format I've described above so I can look for something like it on the net?

Would it be called "Audio only format"?
