Dear Khun Yveline,

Dramas are too exaggerated.. lol.. In real life, it is not anything like that.
When I first traveled to Japan, I saw nothing like how I saw in Japanese dramas either.
It is really cool how you could find those dramas with English subtitles though,
would you mind telling us where you got them? I believe a lot of people want to watch them too

Khun bifftastic, I believe as your vocabulary knowledge improves, the ability to understand the songs/movies/dramas improve accordingly
When I study a foreign language, I always practice both reading and listening, rather than just one skill because it helps me pick up faster

I sometimes learn through movies. Useful because you can pause and replay the bits you can't understand, something you can't do in real life.
Don't use songs so much since you can't really hear the tones.

I buy dvd's with Thai subtitles and watch them several times. First without subtitles and I understand about 30% of it. Then I read through the subtitles and look up unknown words then watch it again and my comprehension jumps up significantly. I've cut way back on my reading and I'm trying to watch a movie every day because my listening skill is much worse than my speaking and reading at this point.

I used to watch English subbed lakorns (Thai dramas) on youtube. They were good for entertainment, but not really that great for learning the language. Also I found them addictive as hell for some really bizarre reason.

I guess I learned a bit about Thai culture? Each lakorn is about 30-40 hours in total, and I know I could have spent my time a lot better. I watched them when I was living in the UK, but now I'm in Thailand I don't need to search for general exposure to the language
