birthday party

Postby nakriian » Sat Jun 23, 2012 3:07 pm

I saw this advertisement promoting a birthday party venue (a place to have your next birthday party). I am able to translate parts of it. However, even when using a dictionary to complete my translation, it still seems incorrect. I have divided it into 3 parts and would like a Thai natives translation of these sentences. I do not need a Google translation, Bing translation, etc.. (not satisfied with the translation they gave).

1.ถึงจะโตขึ้นอีกกี่ปี
2.จินตนาการความสดใสก็ไม่มีวันสิ้นสุด
3.สนุกเต็มที่กับปาร์ตี้วันเกิด

My limited ability translation on this is....
1. Even though you will grow older another years. (the อีกกี่ปี is throwing me, can't word it in English smoothly)
2. Vivid imagination never ends (i am guessing they mean you can still imagine, even you become older)
3. Enjoy your birthday party (fun filled, got that, but the ที่ seems out of place, have trouble completing this sentence in English smoothly also)

1) even though you're growing older
2)
3) เต็มที่ means completely, fully
enjoy your birthday to the maximum
maybe go all out on your birthday

this is just a guess

I am not Thai nor English, but I understand this :

1.ถึงจะโตขึ้นอีกกี่ปี > whatever the number of years you will reach (even though you may get very old)
2.จินตนาการความสดใสก็ไม่มีวันสิ้นสุด > your imagination will stay vivid forever (you will keep a bright remembrance of that day)
3.สนุกเต็มที่กับปาร์ตี้วันเกิด > fully enjoy this birthday party

Can you put that in good english ?

These sound like greetings and wishes, I wonder how they are used to advertise a place.

Specifically; ถึงจะ reaching โตขึ้น increase. อีกกี่ปี is อีกเท่าไรปี 'more how many years'.

In an advert and guessing, since you haven't given it all, maybe it is justifying hiring the place for your older friends.
However old people get they still have lively minds and can still enjoy a great birthday party.

(จินตนาการ/imagination(noun)) (ความสดใส/bright(noun)) <= in this sentence, the adjective "สดใส/bright" appears to have been converted from an adjective to a noun with the use of ความ. Since "bright" is used as an adjective to describe imagination, then why does it need to be converted to a noun?

Wouldn't จินตนา(การ)สดใส mean "bright imagination" the same as จินตนา(การ)(ความ)สดใส would mean "bright imagination"?

Seems to me, the only purpose of "ความ" is so that the reader doesn't try to treat "จินตนา" like a verb because they wouldn't know if การ was a suffix for "จินตนา" or a prefix for สดใส. If the sentence was written "จินตนา(การ)สดใส" then it could be misread as...
"Imagine the bright....." instead of "Bright imagination..."

What about "imagine prosperity that never ends"? จินตนากา appears to be a noun and a verb.

I thinks that you had it right at your first post, do you feel that you need to try to reconcile the grammar?
Thai grammar is slightly different from English in some aspects and sometimes it is necessary to know what the words mean in Thai rather than English, in order to make the grammar fit.
จินตนาการ and ความสดใส could be thought of as faculties; the ability to form pictures in the mind, clarity of the thinking process, (lucidity) with commas separating them, ก็ introduces a clause saying something about them both.

The second and third are in fairly good English.

For the first,

ถึงจะโตขึ้นอีกกี่ปี no matter how many more years you’ll be growing
(before reaching your adult height ก่อนโตเต็มที่แล้ว)

I also wondered about โต; large in stature, here, but since this piece has been doctored we can't be sure that there isn't more to it. It is supposed to be an advertisement.
