"ติดดิน" is a word included in the Royal Institute's "Dictionary of New Words, Volume I" (1997):

ติดดิน ก. มีคฐานะทางการเงินหรือทางสังคมสูงแต่ประพฤติตัวอย่างชาวบ้านธรรมดา เช่น แม้เขาจะมีเงินเป็นพันช้านแต่ก็ทำตัวติดดิน กินข้าวแกงข้างถนนได้

". . . (verb) [is a person who] has a high economic or social status, but who conducts his life like a simple villager [a regular person]; for example, “Even though he is a billionaire, he lives a simple life; he can eat curry and rice at a roadside shop [just like the rest of us].”

Yes it is a pity isn't it? without the definition we could treat it in the same way we treat, feet on the ground, down to earth, which are governed by the context in which they are used and need no definition. Like you I would have thought that ติดดิน spoke for itself.
Funky isn't a word I would have come up with though, but that is just because I don't know what funky means.

Can someone define ช้าน (or พันช้าน or เป็นพันช้าน) in มีเงินเป็นพันช้าน ?

(Or is ช้าน possibly a typo for ล้าน ??)
