Think kids books are easy? บ้าเลย

Postby Gra-ding » Thu Feb 02, 2012 1:10 am

Back in Oz for a bit, run out of Thai newspapers so I got some kids books from the library and came upon this:

A young girl is walking along a pathway when..เสียงจักรยานปั่นดังก่อกแก่กมาจากข้างหลัง
'the sound of a bicycle churning loudly(sound?)came from behind her.'

I'm assuming the underlined part is imitating a sound but the use of tone marks seem redundant to me.

Literary licence perhaps.

I found this by googling :

http://www.protonclub.net/forum/?showtopic=99078

http://www.b2s.co.th/products_detail.php?proid=4128

รถท่านใดมีเสียงดังก๊อกแก๊กบริเวณประตูด้านซ้ายบ้าง จะมีเสียงตอนที่ขับเข้าที่ขรุขระ
หรือ ลูกระนาดเล็ก ๆ

Maybe something like squeaking, creaking ?

กอกแกก or ก๊อกแก๊ก is an onomatopoeia from the collision of somethings.

You are correct. The low tone mark on dead syllable is always mistaken.
