translate ภิญญาพัชญ์ to english

Postby keny » Sat Feb 24, 2018 2:45 pm

Hello, A friend of mine asked for help finding his daughter's transliterated english name.

She is ภิญญาพัชญ์

My guess is Pinyapach but I am trying to see if anyone else agrees with that transliteration, as some people use B in place of P. Your thoughts?

Cheers,
Keny

If the name were spelled "ปิยยาพัลญ์" then I would go for Pinyapach. However, with the spelling you provided I believe that "Binyapat" would result in a pronunciation by non-native speakers closer to the Thai original.

Use P is more accurate.

I don't understand, or perhaps another way of transliterate, for using B for the sound of ,
This result in all foreigners pronounce it wrong e.g. our Suwannabhumi airport, the king rama9 name Bhumibhol. They pronounce all wrong.

The way the name ภิญญาพัชญ์ is spelled shows that the words that are put together are originally those in Pali. In this case, the way this name is transliterated does vary. They can be Bhinyaphach, Phinyaphach, Pinyapat or even some that are suggested above.

1. Bhinyaphach is based on the code chart suggested by King Rama VI.
2. Phinyaphach is based on the code chart suggested by Royal Thai Dictionary.
3. Pinyapat is based on an alphabetic code chart for English with IPA.

Because of the above different reasons, please feel free to choose your own preference.
