Stuck in my head

Postby Joosesis » Thu May 24, 2012 3:59 am

What would be a good translation of stuck in my head.... as in a song stuck in your head. ?

ติดในหัว seems too english literal? The dictionary here also has this ข้อง but I'm not sure how to use it.

Thanks... (and for the curious, มนต์เพลงคาราบาว has been stuck in my head all week)

Surprisingly, we talked about this in school the other day. :D

In English we say a song is "stuck in our head", but in Thai they say it is "stuck in their ear", ติดหู. I believe the thai-language dot com reference to the compound phrase doesn't reflect this.

The teacher said Thais use ติดหู because you hear a song with your ears first before it becomes "stuck" and starts playing like a background theme over and over in your mind .

I dunno really, but it does sound like a plausible explanation. . .

If there is anything 'stuck in our head' like some memory, or you keep thinking about something, we definitely say "ติดอยู่ในหัว".

As for ติดหู, if it's about song, then it means it's a good song or a song that you listen to it very often and then 'stuck' in your head.

Ex.

ไม่รู้เป็นอะไร ทำไมอาทิตย์นี้ทั้งอาทิตย์ เพลงมนต์เพลงคาราบาวติดอยู่ในหัวตลอดเลย - You keep thinking about this song.

If you can hum it at any place; sing it on your way to do anything or tap it out on the table during your other activities,
you “จำเพลงคาราบาวได้จนขึ้นใจ”.
