this is the what i hear my friends use all the time in casual speech now i understand it can be used in both a way to show contempt for something and be used as emphasis in a general way depending on context and tone of your voice.
Can someone give me example sentences for meanings 9, 11 on here pls

another thing also when thai people are thinking out loud they seem to blurt out something that sounds like อ้าย อ้าย repetitively not sure if its this though

I wonder if ไอ้ and อ้าย are functionally equivalent. I often hear Thai people use the word ไอ้/อ้าย as a substitute pronoun when they can't think of what they are referring to right away. This is a malady especially of older people. However, these indefinite, universal pronouns can be found in many forms in different conversations. พรุ่งนี้เราจะไปไอ้นั้น (Tomorrow we're going to whatchamacallit.) ไอ้น้้นโทรมา (Whatshisname called you.)

These are conversational items not found generally in grammar books, but are very much heard on the street.

thanks very much khun david i was thinking the same about อ้าย being used when people are thinking out loud i asked a thai person this and they dismissed it saying maybe they were saying ไป but i agree with you 100% that they say that as a substitute pronoun. thanks very much for the personal pronoun examples as well. Just to clarify these are not derrogatory just colloquial street talk aren't they??
