Please help us understand these lyrics:
เธอไม่เคยจะตายจากไป - You will never leave me
ในใจฉันยังมีเธอ - You will always be in my heart
เหมือนคนละเมอบ้าบอ - I am like someone who says crazy things in her sleep
ยังรอแม้สายเกินไป - I will wait for you, no matter how late it is.
Did I parse these phrases correctly and do I understand the meaning?
Thanks.
David and Bui wrote:I understand that สายเกินไป means "too late" with the implication that "it is past time when anything can be done." For example,"The library closes at 8:00 p.m. You arrived at 8:30 p.m. You are too late to bring your books back."
In the song, however, I wonder about the meaning of "ยังรอแม้สายเกินไป". Let's say the situation is that someone is coming down to visit on the train. You can only seem him for a short time while the train is stopped at the station, then he will move on with the train. The train arrives at 8:30 and leaves at 8:45. You arrive at 9:00. You say that 'even though it is too late, I will wait for you.' This seems strange.
I was wondering whether in the context of the song, สายเกินไป means "very late at night" or "a long time", as in "I will wait for you to come see me even though it is very late at night."
Which meaning is implied by the song? Thanks.
