I have been telling myself for a while I want the thai word for strength tattooed across my chest which I beleive is ''แข็งแร็ง'' somebody correct me if im wrong.
I have absolutely no understanding of the thai language myself other than basic words and phrases when spoken however not written so I have no clue about how to use f0nt.com so I would be very grateful if somebody could reply with various styles of fonts for the word ''แข็งแร็ง''.
I would very definately like to see JS wansika although others would be appreciated so I have a wide variety to choose from.

Please note that the right spelling is แข็งแรง , not แข็งแร็ง

Thankyou very much, I showed it to my mum and she did not notice anything wrong with it. However ive also just got confirmation today from her friend (They are all thai) that infact it doesnt have the little squigly thing. However they are now saying it wouldnt be the right thing to get tattooed.
Was just wondering what would powerful beyond measure translate to in thai?

I think you're approaching this from the wrong direction. English phrases, especially short, one word ones like the ones you're thinking about, often do not directly translate into Thai. When they do, as in single words like 'strength', it doesn't carry the same meaning in the Thai language as you would like to convey in your tattoo. It might be likened to someone having the word 'ROBUST' tattooed on his chest, might make sense in his language, and it does also have a meaning in English, but maybe not the best tattoo in the world?

Now, seeing as you have Thai relatives and they have Thai friends, you are in a unique situation. You can ask them what Thai phrases or single words communicate the idea of a strong person, a person with strength of purpose and mind.

I think if you approach it that way, you'll get something more meaningful, hopefully it won't be a seven verse poem!

I hafta agree that cautious and diligent research is the best course of action BEFORE inking on anything in Thai script, (especially so, as you seem to not be able to read a single character of Thai).

Sadly, I've lost count the number of foreigners I've seen here in Bangkok with totally meaningless Thai script tattoos , but it’s in the hundreds easily . ..

When I say meaningless; I mean they had abso-tively posi-lutely NO meaning to a native Thai person reading the script . Some of them I could figure out; as the tattoos were just word for word English to Thai translations (which BTW; usually mean nothing in Thai ), some where their given names spelled in Thai, some were just adjectives/adverbs or verbs, but most of them, even after I puzzled over them and then asked for an explanation of what it meant, ended up being just nonsense.

It is my experience that ANY tattoo which takes a 5 minute explanation loses a lotta the "kewl-ness" factor no matter how “pretty” the script looks or what language it's done in .

Just a piece of advice; when asking Thais what they think a possible Thai word tattoo means, DON'T lead them to the answer. Given the Thai penchant for pleasant interaction and non-confrontational conversations, most Thais will agree with you rather than telling you the tattoo is gibberish. You need to show them a tattoo and ask them what they think it means. This obviously means you're gonna need either a bilingual Thai or a grasp of more than two-word-tourist-thai, so you can understand what their answer is if they answer you in Thai.

I must say, the fact you misspelled แข็งแรง does NOT bode well for the outcome of this endeavor .

Cheers for all the input guys, my mums friends said that my original idea doesnt give the right impression that it would simply mean ''im strong and healthy'' which isnt exactly the best they said they would get back to me on it and let my mum know :/ It probably would be alot better if I learnt thai...damn my mum for not teaching me when I was younger. This isnt something im going to get done untill im absolutely positive its gives of the right impression that I intended.
I do realise 'powerful beyond measure' will not translate exactly but are their any thai phrases to convey the same meaning? Another one I like is 'even though I seek perfection I wear my scars with pride' ofcourse not word for word translations as you guys said it wouldnt be right, I would much rather it have meaning in thai than just english
Also after getting my mum to read the meanings of the words posted above I beleive ทรหด seems fairly appropriate, correct me if im wrong but she said it mean to be strong, not stopping, never giving up as my mums english isnt perfect I took it as the word she was looking for was either relentless or unyielding?

You're gonna have problems going from ANY English conceptual or felt thing into Thai without usin' a lot of words. Many (in fact most) Thai felt or emotional things just don't have super easy single word universally understood meanings like English does. Plus a lotta them vary their meaning depending on context. Seeing as you're wanting a stand alone 'phrase' or 'word' for this tattoo, there isn't gonna be ANY context, unless you're gonna also tattoo what the phrase means to you too.

I think you should really give it a LOT of thought, and screen ANY possible choices past as many native Thai speakers as you can. I for one wouldn't take ANY advice from a Thai language forum populated by non-native speakers, unless the advice is caution . You can probably count the number of native Thai speakers who post on this forum with a single hand and have fingers left over. I'm not saying the non-native Thai speakers aren't good, as some of them are really good (not me ). I'm just saying, there is a difference between how a native and non-native speaker of Thai looks at things.

You might consider just getting what's called a Sak Yant (สักยันต์). There are tonz of patterns, but the most common one looks sort of like a 'jewish menorah' or a set of 'candle sticks' . The script ain't written in Thai (it's usually pali, sanskrit or sometimes khmer).

I know the Thai government (I think the Ministry of Culture) was wanting to crack down on foreigners getting them (due to some alleged disrespect to Thais blah-blah-blah nonsense ). Last time I checked, Thailand didn't invent this type of tattoo. Nor seeing as I still see foreigners getting them inked on when I pass almost ANY tattoo parlor in Bangkok does it appear they are "banned" either.

Anyway, good luck what ever you decide to do.

I agree. I think that if you want something that represents 'strength' in Thai, you would be better advised to do what Thai people do to represent that on their skin. Which would be a sak yant. It won't 'say' strength, in words, but it will represent that. A lot of Muay Thai fighters have sak yant specifically for the strength they believe it gives them.
