Thai Teaching

Narisa teaches me Thai over the Internet two times every week, 1.5 hours per time. I found her announcement on http://www.thai-language.com

We communicate mostly in the Thai language, and in English when necessary.
Narisa lives in Thailand and I live in Denmark.

We use Skype:
- For Communication
- Writing: Google sheet

I feel I have been very lucky to find such a good and clever teacher:

Very professional and clever and systematic

Good in using the Chat board with many good examples

Good in listening, questioning, being responsive

Good in helping a self-learning student like me

Good to guess what you need when you have trouble telling something

Good to correct quickly without interrupting your thinking

Good in building on what I tell

Good in integrating earlier lessons stuff in the current lesson for repeating

Many good examples, e.g. general sentence patterns

Very correct Thai and English languages as well

Clear and correct pronunciation

*Lately with Narisa’s encouragement, I started to write my daily diary in the Thai language. Narisa corrects not just the simple spelling but also sentence structures and writing style too.

I live in Denmark and work as a software engineer.

I want to learn Thai because I want to be able to communicate with the local population in Thailand and follow up communication. I was in Thailand last year for the first time and was very happy to meet Thai people, also got very good friends there.

Best Regards
Preben Madsen – Denmark

Hello forum members,

Teacher Narisa (iloveteaching) recently posted on the forum regarding online Thai lessons. Since I live in a rural area with no options for person to person Thai lessons I gave Narisa a try. Let me summarize my experience to this point (five lessons).

I was first concerned about investing my money up front with someone I didn't know anything about. Would the money and the teacher vanish into thin air? As it turns out Narisa has the integrity you would hope for when dealing with someone on the internet. She is trustworthy.

Now about the lessons. We use Skype for voice communication and the Skype chat for our written exchanges. Narisa has written her own lessons for instruction with the Thai written phonetically. When I told her that I could read Thai and didn't think the phonetic version would be of much help she set about to re-write her material in Thai. That is still a work in progress.

In the meantime it has been fun, challenging and rewarding to study with her. The lessons are tailored to my interests and the conversations revolve about the day to day issues in our lives such as work, food and family.

I would recommend that if you are looking for a resource to help with your reading, conversation, pronunciation or understanding of Thai that you contact Narisa.

John

I want to confirm, without any caveat, what John did post: Although I'm not from a rural area (in Canada) but from an urban centre in Germany, Bonn, near Cologne (Leverkusen, Duesseldorf, Dortmund ...), I share the same experience with John. Furthermore, I'm married with a woman of Thai nation (who could, in theory, teach me Thai), and in addition, I did not worry, as John did, about giving money (the money mentioned by John turned out in my case, as precise as Narisa is, in 5028(year 2008),- Baht, the Satang I do not remember - for 10 hours of lessons).

How many hundreds of US$ I will have already spent for learning Thai without receiving something?

Narisa is a completely different experience (after 3 lessons, in my case) compared to my preceding, definitely more negative, experiences - than the current with Narisa. Narisa is:

1. HIGHLY reliable
2. accurate (on time and all other relevant issues).
3. at a high educational level
4. friendly
5. a MD in linguistics
6. Khon Thai
7. funny!!!

In summary, in the case that you are living in a rural ("Lao") region of this world, have made negative experiences in more urban regions with Thai teachers, and/or do not want to abuse your wife as teacher but want to learn phasa Thai:

Contact Narisa!

I forgot to say: She will find out at which level of Thai learning you are, and will make her teaching absolutely fitting with your needs...

In (summary and) conclusion: The optimal internet (does cause only rarely technical problems) teacher of Thai language I can imagine. Will continue with Narisa until I can speak fluently Thai (which still can takes several years )

Hello Everybody I would like to post another testimonial from our board member
Jack Member # 3809

Reiteration: Apparently I can speak Thai much better than I thought after 40 years of not speaking it at all.
I want to tell you guys out there who are just learning what Narisa (Image) did for me.
First of all we had about a 20 - 30 minute long conversation over the telephone. Little did I realize that she was taking notes of our entire discussion.
Then she emailed our discussion to me written in Thai for me to translate it into English.
Then she sent me an evaluation of my translation.
My point is that Ms. Narisa is by far the finest Thai language teacher I have ever come across, and I have known many.
Topics which are often difficult to discuss are easily discussed with Narisa. For instance, what should I call you or what should you call me. If you would call me "uncle" that might be appropriate but I would feel bad because that makes me think that you think I am old. But if we settle on "older brother" then I feel alot better about that.
In Thai language there are many, many such instances where if you use the wrong word you are really making yourself look a little bit foolish, or maybe causing some distress to the listener, but you can discuss these with Narisa at length and come to the best solution.
She taught me so much in just such a short time that really stuck and I will have this knowledge forever.
I strongly recommend her to teach you at any level. This is her life's work and she does it the best I have ever seen.

After more than a year of learning with Narisa via Skype I am even happier to recommend her as a teacher.

She is not only a great teacher, but is also a generous sponsor of this web site.

My only concern with recommending her is that she will become so busy she won't have time to teach me. :)

Hi everyone,

I'm de-lurking on this forum after a few months of reading.

I learned about Narisa on this forum and have been taking lessons from her for a few weeks.

I'm very grateful to have found Narisa to teach me the language - I'm still a total beginner and Narisa is extremely patient with me but at the same time she is tough and makes sure I pronounce words correctly - especially those darn tones!

Narisa also tailors the lessons towards your particular needs in life and does her best to make sure that you have the tools you need to handle situations that you personally come across.

As a person, I find Narisa very pleasant and her personality is endearing.

However, the bottom line is that she is a great teacher and seems to enjoy helping people learn.
