Extent of Reduplication

Postby Richard Wordingham » Mon Oct 27, 2014 11:23 am

In a Northern Thai - Thai -English dictionary, I found the example clause:
มาตี้สำนักงานตึงวัน ๆ

This translates literally to Central Thai as:
มาที่สำนักงานทุกวัน ๆ

What does the mai yamok duplicate? Is it just วัน or is it ตึงวัน/ทุกวัน?

I think ทุกวันทุกวัน repeated for emphasis.

Makes มาตี้สำนักงานตึงวันวัน sense in Northern Thai?
There are three kinds of people: Those who can count and those who cannot.

It could be pouring on the multiplicity of occasions. The meanings of วัน ๆ seem rather idiomatic in Standard Thai, so I don't see why it can't mean 'every day' in parts of the North. The sentence goes on to suggest that the frequent visitor fancies someone at the office:

NT: ท่าหยะพองไผเห่อ
Literal CT: คงจะหมายใจใครเอ่ย

Have you seen people write like that? I'm certainly more comfortable with that, but I find it hard to relate to the text.

It has to be "ทุกวันทุกวัน".
