Not much of a discussion going on on that site either. 3 comments so far!

Perhaps a site not well traveled.

I haven't upgraded yet, and now I'm glad because I can't read the modern font.

I'll need to learn it eventually (all my CD liners use that font for the lyrics, which is why I don't know what anyone is singing about :p), but I want to be fairly comfortable with the traditional font first.

Is there no option to switch fonts? I sent Apple a complaint because based on what I've read here and elsewhere, it appears there isn't. Ugh.

My advice would be to go ahead and upgrade and it will force you to start picking up the new font. I'm in the same boat you are and it's already helping me to learn it. As I mentioned earlier, your keyboard will still be traditional along with a lot of the apps including Facebook (if you download the American version of the OS, anyway). It's actually kind of neat watching the font change into the modern form as you type it... ;)

I would tend to agree. Getting used to the modern typeface will require some hassle up front, but pays off in spades as you find yourself no longer limited in terms of what is readable.

I see your point, and I'll give it a go, but... I'm nervous, so I think I'll wait a month. :) I suppose it's about time I not take 20 minutes to read five words on a magazine cover. (I wish I were exaggerating!)

This month I'm really focusing on my reading and writing accuracy since that's where I was strongest back when I was taking lessons, and it's the fastest thing for me to pick up again, so this upgrade kind of threw a wrench into my plans, but you are both absolutely right -- I will make the best of it and it will help me in the long run.

Christian,

I just opened and worked with your version .10. I am very impressed by how well you fixed all the issues and added more functionality. I appreciate the font and transcription options and it appears that you solved the output errors.

Thank you so much for making this app so useful for all iPhone/iPad users and those interested in using the resources of Thai-language.com on their smartphones and similar devices. A tour-de'-force!

(BTW, is that an Asian elephant or an African elephant?)

The default system font for Thai in iOS 7 is really quite different from the one in iOS 6. Note that you should look at the system apps, since any user-installed apps may still be using the usual font.

For a closer look at the new kid on the block, see this:
http://cadsondemak.com/foundry/sukhumvit-สุขุมวิท-2/

Personally I've actually grown to like the new font quite a bit. The difference between and is subtle, but it can be argued that a high similarity is the case for the traditional font as well. I think it's merely a matter of habituation.

The modern fonts are seeing really wide-spread use in the present Thai society, and it seems not unreasonable for Apple to reflect this in their user interface design.

Nonetheless, most (foreign?) students of Thai seem to be accustomed to the traditional variety, so for the upcoming thai-language.com iOS app, I will make it possible for the user to specify a preferred font, and likely leave the traditional one as the default choice.

I should like to find out if an 'app' is any better than using Safari for websites, I have a mail 'app', should I be using it, am I using it unknowingly through Safari?
How do I get an 'app' for this site?

Thanks David, I saw that post but decided that I wasn't the chap to test that. I notice that it will appear in the 'app store' later I can wait until then.
