I'll need to learn it eventually (all my CD liners use that font for the lyrics, which is why I don't know what anyone is singing about :p), but I want to be fairly comfortable with the traditional font first.
Is there no option to switch fonts? I sent Apple a complaint because based on what I've read here and elsewhere, it appears there isn't. Ugh.

The default system font for Thai in iOS 7 is really quite different from the one in iOS 6. Note that you should look at the system apps, since any user-installed apps may still be using the usual font.

Personally I've actually grown to like the new font quite a bit. The difference between ค and ด is subtle, but it can be argued that a high similarity is the case for the traditional font as well. I think it's merely a matter of habituation.
The modern fonts are seeing really wide-spread use in the present Thai society, and it seems not unreasonable for Apple to reflect this in their user interface design.
Nonetheless, most (foreign?) students of Thai seem to be accustomed to the traditional variety, so for the upcoming thai-language.com iOS app, I will make it possible for the user to specify a preferred font, and likely leave the traditional one as the default choice.

How do I get an 'app' for this site?
