¹Ò¶  naatF
pronunciation guide
Phonemic Thai¹Ò´
IPAnâːt
Royal Thai General Systemnat

[noun, proper noun, person, formal, loanword, Pali]
definition
[literally means,] supporter; helper; protector [a word placed at the end of the Thai queen's name and her royal title to honor her for having been H.M. the King's regent when the king was unavailable (entering the monkhood, for example); see notes.]

notesWhen ¾ÃкҷÊÁà´ç¨¾ÃÐà¨éÒÍÂÙèËÑÇÀÙÁÔ¾ÅÍ´ØÅÂà´ª (His Majesty King Bhumibol) entered the priesthood in 1956, Her Majesty Qeen Sirikit became the kingdom's Regent during that interval. She performed her duties so well and so satisfactorily that, on the recommendation from the Government, Her Majesty was given a title of higher distinction, "Somdej Praboroma Rajineenath" (ÊÁà´ç¨¾ÃкÃÁÃÒªÔ¹Õ¹Ò¶). H.M. Queen Sirikit is only the second Queen to be so honored; Queen Saovabha Phongsri—wife of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, the Great (Rama V)—was the first Thai Queen to be so honored as Regent when King Chulalongkorn was traveling abroad.
