ชื่อสัตว์เคี้ยวเอื้องในวงศ์ Cervidae ตัวเล็ก ขนสีน้ำตาลจนถึงน้ำตาลเข้ม หน้าผากเป็นสันเห็นได้ชัดเจน ตัวผู้มีเขาและเขี้ยว ในประเทศไทยมี ๒ ชนิด ที่รู้จักกันทั่วไปคือ อีเก้ง หรือ ฟาน (Muntiacus muntjak) อีกชนิดหนึ่งคือ เก้งหม้อ หรือ เก้งดำ (M. feae) ตัวโตกว่าชนิดแรก ขนสีน้ำตาลแก่เกือบดำ ที่หัวมีขนลักษณะคล้ายจุกสีเหลืองแซมดำ มีเลี้ยงที่สวนสัตว์ดุสิตเพียงแห่งเดียวในโลก, ปักษ์ใต้ เรียก กวางจุก.
