[นาม]

ชื่อนกในวงศ์ Accipitridae เป็นนกที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในจำพวกเหยี่ยว-แร้ง ปีกกว้าง หางสั้น หัวเล็ก ลำคอไม่มีขน กินซากสัตว์ ในประเทศไทยมี ๔ ชนิด คือ แร้งดำหิมาลัย (Aegypius monachus) พญาแร้ง (Sarcogyps calvus) แร้งสีน้ำตาล (Gyps indicus) และ แร้งเทาหลังขาว (G. bengalensis).
