Our speech and our actions should be sufficient and moderate. As applied to our Thai language, I would like you to think about four issues. These are:

His Majesty the King explained that the term /phaawM phiiangM/ (sufficiency) means “moderate” and “fair”, “not extreme”; likewise, we should not exploit others.

On July 26th, General Prem Tinsulanonda, President of the Privy Council, acted as the chair in opening the seminar entitled, “The Thai Language in the Era of Sufficiency.” (This seminar) was being held on the occasion of the National Language Day, July 29th (2008).

๑. การใช้ภาษา คนไทยต้องใช้ภาษาไทยอย่างถูกต้อง ถ้าไม่ถูกต้องคือขาดความพอเพียง

1. The use of language. Thais must use their language correctly; if they do not use it correctly, they lack “sufficiency.”

4. The development of (our) language is the responsibility of the scholars at the (Royal) Institute who should be thinking about how the language should be improved. Perhaps they should set forth methods for the use of tone marks; the silencer mark; and, methods of pronunciation so that (our) language can attain sufficiency, (moderation, and fairness).
