เบี้ย ๑ /เบี้ย/
[นาม]	ชื่อหอยทะเลกาบเดี่ยวหลายชนิดในสกุล Cypraea วงศ์ Cypraeidae เปลือกแข็ง ผิวเป็นมัน หลังนูน ท้องแบน ช่องปากยาวแคบและไปสุดตอนปลายทั้ง ๒ ข้าง เป็นลำราง ริมปากทั้ง ๒ ด้านหยักหรือมีฟัน ไม่มีฝาปิด เรียกรวมๆ ว่า หอยเบี้ย, เปลือกหอยเบี้ยชนิดที่คนโบราณใช้เป็นวัตถุกลางสำหรับซื้อขายสิ่งของ เรียกว่า เบี้ย เช่น เบี้ยจั่น หรือ เบี้ยจักจั่น ก็คือ เปลือกของหอยเบี้ยชนิด C. moneta เบี้ยแก้ว หรือ เบี้ยนาง คือ เปลือกของหอยเบี้ยชนิด C. annulus มีอัตรา ๑๐๐ เบี้ย เป็น ๑ อัฐ (เท่ากับสตางค์ครึ่ง) จึงเรียกคำว่า เบี้ย เป็นเงินติดมาจนทุกวันนี้ เช่น เบี้ยประชุม เบี้ยประกัน เบี้ยเลี้ยงชีพ.

[นาม]	ชื่อไม้ล้มลุกชนิด Portulaca oleracea Linn. ในวงศ์ Portulacaceae ใช้เป็นผักได้, ผักเบี้ย หรือ ผักเบี้ยใหญ่ ก็เรียก.
