notesIn the past, this word was used by either a man or a woman when speaking to someone of equal status, but nowadays it tends to connote condescention, formerly to an equal, nowadays to an inferior

The polite terms used nowadays are:
  • by a woman to an equal: ¤èР
  • by a woman to a superior: à¨éÒ¤èÐ
  • by a man: ¤ÃѺ  or more formally ¢ÍÃѺ, ¢ÍÃѺ¡ÃмÁ
  • by a woman or a man speaking to royalty: ¾ÃÐà¨éÒ¤èÐ, ¾Ãоط¸à¨éÒ¤èÐ,¾Ãоط¸à¨éÒ¢éÒ, ¾Ãоط¸à¨éÒ¢éÒ¢ÍÃѺ, ¾Ãоط¸à¨éÒ¢éÒ¢ÍÃѺãÊèà¡ÅéÒãÊè¡ÃÐËÁèÍÁ (often shortened to ྤРby women or ¾ÐÂФèР by men)
àÍÍ  or àÍÍÇÐ are familiar terms used especially by a man; used with variations as above at the end of a remark, especially an entreaty or a command, more or less equivalent to please, as in ÁÒà¶ÍШéÐ "Come, please."
