When economic anthropologists closely study the relationship between cows and Indians, they find that the Indians' worship of cows is indeed of significant economic value to Hindus.

Many products from the cow including its milk, its labor, its carcass, and even its excrement can all be brought to good use.

Even if there were a new commercial cattle industry, such an industry would require a tremendous capital investment; this would prevent poor people from gaining access to all the products of the cattle from then on.

(This idea) is quite contrary to the notion that cattle worship reflects merely blind faith, if one looks from the viewpoint of of using resources in the most efficient way possible. It is precisely cattle worship which provides the most intelligent method of using available resources under the conditions which exist in India.
